Professional supervision is an essential component of building professional development into financial counselling through providing structured professional support and mentoring to financial counsellors. This session is to refresh your understanding of professional supervision concepts, share & discuss your challenges and stay up to date with new concepts regarding professional supervision. It will enable supervisors to learn from each other and develop a deeper understanding of what constitutes good practice in professional supervision.

This session will be focusing on insurance complaints matters. You will find out when you are entitled to ask for a refund and will also learn how to go about doing this. Furthermore, this session will also look at claims issues and provide you with the tools required to dispute a claim that was declined or delayed as well as other complications.

Learn how to control the client conversation and manage big emotions and also come to understand some of the underlying issues of these behaviours in this interactive and action-based training. You will also get a chance to become familiar with a model for building rapport quickly, counselling micro skills and solution focused practice before going on practicing your new skills through some case study work.

For many Australians, access to Centrelink payments is essential for their basic financial survival and wellbeing. This course is designed to provide attendees with the practical skills and tools necessary to assist clients who disagree with a Centrelink decision, including navigating the Centrelink appeals process (in particular for Disability Support Pension applicants) and assisting those who have had debts raised against them for alleged overpayments. This session is designed to incorporate and complement existing knowledge of attendees and will be interactive and dynamic, with a focus on the application of technical knowledge and skills in a practical setting. It also aims at bringing social security experts and financial counsellors together in order to provide better outcomes for clients.

Hear from the Office of the Public Advocate, State Trustees and VCAT on the changes to the Guardianship and Administration Act. What are the implications for FCs? How will State Trustees implement these changes? Learn more broadly about power of attorney, administration orders – how to get one and how to get it revoked as well as State Trustees practices and their responsibilities versus the client who is under administration.
This session will be facilitated by a panel of experts followed by a Q&A session.

The booklet was designed to empower financial counsellors in supporting their clients to develop stronger emotional resilience.
