Good Shepherd is collaborating with Council of the Ageing (COTA) and RMIT on a program to improve employment outcomes for older Australian’s. The project is supported by the Try, Test and Learn Fund – an initiative of the Australian Government Department of Social Services. This funding is allocated for innovative community programs.

This exciting ‘Life Coach’ role will work with our COTA & RMIT partners on an innovative program called ‘Reach, Train, Employ’. The program has been developed to support people over 55 years of age in the Brimbank Melton area to undertake training in a Cert III in Aged Care & Disability Services offered through RMIT.

The Life Coach plays an important part in the program, supporting participants to build their financial capability, prepare for employment & focus on their wellbeing as they complete their studies.

About the role

If you have a passion for working with the community and a willingness to learn and develop your skills this role could be perfect for you.

As a Life Coach you will work with program participants, and program partners to:

  • Develop & deliver financial capability workshops to program participants
  • 1:1 financial coaching to program participants
  • Support to participants to be work ready including help to prepare a CV & coaching for interviews
  • Work with participants with more complex needs to develop a wellbeing plan.
  • It will be an advantage for you to have some previous coaching experience but not mandatory. The successful candidate will be supported to build their coaching skills.

    Additional requirements for the role:

  • Experience in community sector, financial capability or counselling, case management or employment support.
  • Minimum Diploma level qualifications in social work, community development, coaching, financial capability, counselling and/or community education
  • Strong group facilitation skills, ideally completed Certificate IV Training and Assessment
  • Experience working with people in or at risk of poverty, family violence, family breakdown (would be particularly beneficial to have experience with people over 55 years of age)
  • Strong ethos of collaboration
  • Commitment to personal & professional development
  • Capacity to undertake internal financial capability coaching training and supervision
  • Behaviour consistent with GSANZ mission, policies and values
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in case management would be highly desirable.
  • A driver’s licence is required for this role
