Chair's update - August 2018

By: Julie Barrow

On Tuesday, 21 August the FCRC Board held a luncheon to meet with prospective Board members from our profession, with a great level of interest shown. In the afternoon, we held a governance forum facilitated by well-known and respected facilitator, Christine Kotur. This was an opportunity to bring together convenors of networks, working groups and sub-committees to look at our current governance model and look at ways we can improve our structure to best support the work of our organisation in achieving our goals:

  1. To advocate for vulnerable Victorian consumers who are experiencing financial difficulty through our work in supporting financial counsellors and through stakeholder relationships to create systemic change.
  2. To support the financial counselling sector to adopt and maintain best practice, through casework, advocacy and law reform.

The forum was well attended and it was a great opportunity to directly communicate the strengths and challenges we all share as a high-demand profession with limited capacity.

We were able to learn a great deal in a short time from the leaders in our sector and will continue with this work.

Our State Conference is fast approaching with further opportunities to connect and strengthen our networks between our members and the wider sector. We hope to see you in Melbourne to mark our 40th year!
